Default Remote start, 2 way alarms

Hey guys. I am getting ready to do the sound and security on my Bonne. Please sound off if you have experience with any of the Remote start/2way/security systems.

Please tell me what brand you have and what type of experience it has been owning it. I am not doing the install myself, I have a guy for that,

There are quite a few different ones I am looking at on Ebay, is there any particular brand that you might reccomend I pick or stay away from, please give reasons as well. This community is really awesome and I do appreciate the input I have been getting from you guys.

Quality brands that are easy to install are as follows:

Automobility also known as;
Autostart
Command Start
Orbit
Prostart

Another of my favorites is
AST known as Ultrastart

DEi or Directed Electronics are also popular with installers but are more bulky (multiple brains and more of a pain to program). Lots of brands have been acquired by DEI.
Do a search on google or yahoo for Directed Electronics and check out their site.

DEI is quick, and simple to install. Easy to program as well. And awesome customer support.

Prestige and Audiovox, neither I would recommend. Done both of those, neither were all that great. And quality was subpar.

Never done an Autostart, but I've only heard mixed reviews.

Had a great experience with the Automate AM9 in my Aunts H3. It works well and has a screen that tells you everything that is going on with the car. Tells you if the doors are locked unlocked if its running etc... It has been nice using it it has a confirmation tone or vibration for everything you use it for. It has been reliable and dependable. Plus it tells you how much battery life it has and the time. So I recommened this.

In 6 years of installing Autostart products never seen one defective unit or any go bad.
Any product is only as good as the install.

I've also heard some bad things about their products but its always from questionable installers and bad installs.

DEi in my opinion is overrated and over used. They seem to last but are a pain.
Any R/*, Alarm or Combo unit were I have to hide two brains instead of one, and have to add a bunch of relays to make things work is a pain and time consuming.
Not to mention playing with programing, when the settings you want should be default settings.

My advice stick with something name brand.
There are a lot of oriental copies floating around on the net and half of them won't start your car in extreme temps.

Before you buy one, post on here some deals that you've found and we can tell you what is a deal, and what is crap.

Happy Shopping,
Dutch

I've been extremely happy with our Viper units. They've each been in at least two different cars.

The installs are always top notch, however.

My Dad got me an Autostart AS-2600TW 2-way remote starter for Christmas and he said it was the most expensive and most popular unit that they install at his shop. It is going to be installed by the resident installer at the dealer. I was a little leery when I first opened it because I thought it was some Wal-mart special as I had never heard of it. After some online browsing I found it is a VERY good brand. I am pretty excited.

I just installed an Audiovox Prestige 998 onto my car. The options are amazing as is the Text Message 2-way pager remote. So far, the thing works like a dream. One thing i will say is you get what you pay for. The Prestige 998 was $500 brand new (i payed $150 brand new on Ebay). After you see all the options it has and is capable of, you will see how much it'* worth it. My brother is a professional installer and has had the Audiovox 997 on his car for years without a single hitch. The 998 i bought was the step up from his model and so far it works great.

I researched and looked into many different alarm/remote starts and i chose the Audiovox for the many options the unit is capable of.

The Audiovox remote start and car alarm are all in one unit. If you have a PassKey system, you have to have an interface module. There are a few different kinds of interface modules, but Directed (DEI) makes the best and most compatible ones and their customer support is amazing.

For those few who gave negative comments about Directed or comments about having to run so many relays, alot of the remote start/car alarms nowadays have the relays built into the units. With a Directed interface module, all you have to do is wire the interface module directly into the alarm/rs and then hook a few wires up inside the car. Very simple and quick job.

It'* all about what kind of features you're looking for in a car alarm/remote start. With this Audiovox 998, i can:

- Start the car from over a quarter mile away (1400 ft.)
- Several ways to remote start the car (by timer, by inside temp, manually)
- Several different alarm options (city mode, silent mode, etc.)

What do YOU want in a car alarm/remote start? Once you find out all the options out there that are available, then research only those units with those options until you pick the one you want. Good luck and hope this was helpful.
