Hello everyone. I am new to this site. I had a question about the stock deck in my car. I have the volume controls and tunning controls on the steering wheel. Now, is it possible for me to purchase a cd stereo that will be able to be controlled by the features on the steering wheel? Or can I purchase a stock deck but a cd player version? I want to find out before I begin spending money on a hi end stereo system because I would love to be able to control the aftermarket stereo with the controls on the steering wheel.

I would think that you should be able to buy a adapter for the steering wheel contol for some decks, i would talk to you'r local audio store guys to find out for sure.

if you get an aftermarket HU that has a Remote, you can then buy the PAC SWI-X and retain your steering wheel controls

If you don't want to do any mods to your car, replace your tape deck (which I assume you have) with a stock 95-99 CD player. It should hook right up with no cutting, welding, prying, hammering, or re-wiring. Pretty much plug-n-play. I installed one in my 93 (not quite as straighforward) and it worked fine. Certainly you gan get better sound and more trinkets/gadgets with an aftermarket unit, but if you're OK with stock sound there'* no easier solution than this. You can find them on BC sometimes and almost always on eBay. It'* simple enough that you can do it yourself - all you need is a 7mm socket driver.

Sweet. Yeah, I want to stay away from using after market stereo since my 1200 dallar in dash was stolen out of my 92 bonneville se which I had tricked out. Insurance said, hmmm, well lets say its salvaged. LOL. So, I pretty much got screwed. So, my reason now for a stock would be from theft but I will put in an amp to the high'* inside and a subwoofer. I will use rca jacks that will be used on high level inputs to the amp. With a stock deck but with cd player, that would be cool cause then not only would I keep the controls on the steering but also dont need a cd changer.

you know that you already have a stock amp for the rear speakers??

To be honest, no I didnt know that the rear speakers had an amp to them but I am going to replace all my stock speakers soon with new set. All of them will be hooked up to a 5 channel amp which the 5th channel would be a set of subs. Nothing too fancy since I just want a little thump to boost some music you know. I saw some stereos on sale on ebay right now which are a cd stock decks. Now as far as the security on them. Would I have to call pontiac about the codes or would it just be a plug and play deal?

I would prefer to buy one with the security code disabled or from someone who has the code. You can get the code from a dealer, but it may cost you.
