Default replacing radio in a 2000 SLE

I'm going to install a new radio in my brother'* 00' SLE but have a few questions.
1. How do you wire in the new radio? It'* simple if there'* a wire harness you can get an adapter for, but on the 2000+ models the radio apparently slides into the car and there are no wires to attach? http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereor...onneville2.htm
2. WIl a standard GM installation kit work on the 2000+ model?
3. What are the side effects of the aftermarket radio? He does not have Bose, onstar, or a HUD.

Is there anything else I need to know?

There'* a wiring harness available for the 00+...it just came out. It'* made by Metra. Try doing a search for Metra installation kits on the Internet and you'll find their website. You can give them a call and see if the Bonneville '00 harness is available.

Sorry didn't see this, when my first alpine went in there was no harness available, don't know if there'* one out there no, there should be.

My install was all hard wired and spliced into factory wiring into the back of the ribbon cable, all speaker wire is new and had to be run the the trunk first before the front doors. get a wiring diagram for what colors to tap into. Pontiac Dad should be able to get you that.

First check for a harness, much easier than what I went threw. Oh and my mounting kit is off of a VW cause I needed a non flush mount. othewise the 01+ monte carlos have simmular dash demensions.

Whenever you all get this figured out could you please compile it and post it in the sticky at the top of this page, it would help out a lot of people.

Taylor, is this http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOGM07B what the factory plug looks like? Does it look like this wiring harness will plug into the factory dock?

according to cardomain these are the pieces you need to install an aftermarket stereo in a 2000+ Bonneville. Hopefully this is helpful to others!

That looks about right. The thing you have to keep in mind is the factory harness is actually part of the subdash. You will need to cut away part of the subdash in order to free up the harness to connect to your after market harness. In addition, you won't be able to fit the new radio in at all unless you cut away that subdash, as the opening is not deep enough. Oh, one more thing, there are no locking clips on the aftermarket harness or the factory harness, so you will need to use a couple of cable ties to secure the two together. Power is also an issue, you may need to run a new power line right from the ignition switch (as was done in mine).

Good luck.
