'03 - '05 Head Units with XM

Hey everyone,

I've got an '02 SSEi with the Bose CD/Cassette HU. I was curious if anyone knows if it is possible to purchase a HU from an 03 - 05 Bonne that has the XM option. I'm having trouble finding pictues of one (or even coming across a part # for it) to see if my 02's harness will plug in. I realize if I DID find one I'd still have to install the receiver and the antennae, but I'm just curious if it's possible to do something like this.

Does anybody have any ideas/advice/references for the XM Head Units? Thanks!

its not as wasy as just installing the HU and then having XM as you well know....i

ts a very interesting process to add XM to the 00+'s...

This can certainly be done. I've added it to my 2004 GXP and it works great :D . I also had an '02 SE which I upgraded the factory head unit in making it XM Ready, then added the Sirius SIR-GM1 (not the factory XM, but the same operation through the factory head unit). If you have a 12 Disc Player in the trunk, the process becomes a little easier. If not, it's still possible, just more work. You will have to build the wiring harness for the trunk mount receiver. Additionally, you'll need the XM tuner, antenna, antenna coax and the tuner mounting bracket.

As for the head unit, I purchased one off eBay which was XM capable. Basically, if you have an AM/FM button, you will need to upgrade. If you have a BAND button instead, it will be XM capable.

It is generally quite a bit more expensive to add XM this way, but if you're willing to spend the money there are a few options. By the time I was finished with mine, I had spent the better part of $1,000.00 CDN.

There can be several hurdles throughout the entire process (as I learned the hard way). If it's really something you want, I can guide you through the process I went through.

Great, thanks for the info guys!

Nothing's currently out there on eBay for Pontiac head units. Do you know of any online retailers that might be selling one?

For a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville GMPartsDirect shows the following part numbers as of 1/26/07:

AM/FM/Cassette Radio 25731290

AM/FM/CD Radio 25736703

AM/FM/CD/Cassette 25736704

The price you ask?

GM PART # 25736703
CATEGORY: All
PACK QTY: 1
CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $711.31
OUR PRICE: $369.89
Im not even sure if thats XM compatible, but dayum thats expensive, you could get a very nice satellite radio setup for just the price of the new radio.

Yeah, I agree that's expensive. I was just wanting to try to keep the steering wheel controls, the Heads Up Display, and the door chimes through the speakers with the OEM HU.

What size is the opening for 00+ Bonnie's? Is that DIN and a half or double DIN?
