01 SSEI Stock radio help
 

hi everyone long time lurker first post i have a 2001 SSEI and my radio lights burnt out during removal of the face plate of the radio i tore a wire i do not think i can get it repaired. does anyone know 1) can i get a replacement face for the stero, 2) how much is a new stero 3) how hard is it to reprogram another stock radio to work with my car due to the theft lock system thanks alot for the help i can post pictures later if needed.

Because you have the 2001 SSEi, you'll have a Bose head unit. eBay is probably your best choice for a replacement. Keep in mind that 2002 and on have Monsoon stereos, even though they will physically fit.

The down side to all of this is that there is no way, except by your dealer or someone with a Tech 2 scan tool to program a different radio for your car. Call around to a few dealerships as costs will vary.

The other option may be to buy a radio for parts. If the problem is limited to the faceplate and related components, you should be able to swap those parts across and not have to reprogram your radio.

also will the monsoon work with the rest of my specakers? conenctions?

Yes, but this requires the Tech 2 scan tool your dealership will have. I suggested the alternative to save the cost of having this done. If you find a (correct) used radio on eBay, the dealership can complete this set-up for you.

I can't say for sure. The Monsoon radio will plug into the dash without a problem, but the amplifiers are different. The amp on the SSEi is a separate unit mounted in the trunk. I have never tried this, but I suspect they won't entirely be compatible.

I have been working on getting a factory Delco Pontiac MP3 player to work in my 2003 SSEi as well as understanding how the new Theftlock system works. 2 of my display lights burned out as well and I just replaced all 3 of them and now the 3 lamps that light up the bottom buttons on the radio are out now as well.

Ordered up new lamps for them and will replace them when they come in.

I think you should be able to repair your unit without too much problems. I have purchased 2 radios off of ebay to tear apart and suse to better understand how the Theftlock system works as well as to see what parts are interchangeable between radios.

If you can send me pics of the problem I think I can be in a better position to see just what kind of repair would be needed to get the radio working again. But I am pretty sure you can fix your original radio for little to none cash out of pocket.

Just make sure you mark your original radio before you start swapping parts so you don't get confused ;) - thats what would happen to me :lol:
