Gas Guage Problems
ok, so starting about 2-3 weeks ago, my gas guage starting acting funky. I fill up with gas and it shows full, but then when it gets down to about just over half a tank left, it goes nuts and moves all the time until I fill it again. It will however go below the halfway mark if I park nose pointed downward on a hill, opposite of what is used to be. Any ideas? Thanks, Brad

This happened to me on my 97 GP GT. It didn't start until I had ramped a railroad crossing by "accident". I was told that it knocked the hell out of the floater in the gas tank that determines the level of your fuel. Basically, it requires (correct me if I'm wrong because I decided it wasn't worth the cost to fix) pulling the tank and physically resetting the floater inside the tank itself. Considering that I knew how many miles I could get to a tank, I just got into the habit of resetting the trip odometer and refilling when I hit 300 miles. When I sold it, I made sure it had a full tank just so I wouldn't strand some poor guy out for a test drive. Maybe the solution is simpler and cheaper, but that was what I was told in my case.

Go to your local autozone and have it checked for codes. If the fuel level sensor is the problem there will probably be a code stored in the pcm. The two codes that could be in there would be P0462 for low voltage or P0463 for high voltage.
