I just picked this car up yesterday and didnt notice how hard the shifts felt until I just drove it again this morning. It'* a little concerning. It doesnt feel smooth at all, it'* real jerky, I feel it more in the 2-3, and 3-4 shifts. I didnt opt for any extended warranty on this car, which I now may regret, but I do have 90 days/3,000miles on engine and drivetrain. I checked the fluid and it'* full and didnt smell burnt or anything. I'm definately going to take it back tomorrow and have them check it out, but I guess my question is just the fact does this sound normal for these cars, or should they shift relatively smooth? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Definitely get it checked out -the hard shifts could detonate your differential, as has happened with quite a few 4T65E-HD'* before.
Take it to a transmission shop as well and have them hook up their computer and monitor the shifts as they will know what they're seeing, probably more so than a mechanic at the dealer who'* probably only had a general training over the whole drivetrain, whereas the tranny shop guy (a good reputable one) will have a deep knowledge of tranny.

Is it intermittent or always shifting hard?



Mine was shifting hard last year and it was my "pressure solenoid" in the tranny
It was throwing a code but not the SES light.

If this is that, this is not cover by an extend warranty, i tried and mine said it was electrical and not mechanical so i had to pay 600+$ canadian for the sensor and labor.

My problem was intermittent.

Goodluck, you have to get it scan first to know if something is wrong with sensors.

I remember from somewhere that hard shifts can be a default mode for the transmission when there is a code or problem set. Sort of like the limp home mode for the motor when things don't work right and it goes into a basic running mode to get you home.

Thats the "pressure sensor", when hes bad, the PCM give full pressure.
But it can be intermittent.

The shifts should be almost unnoticeable.
Unless I'm hard into the throttle, I can't feel mine at all, and I have the Shift Kit and PCM.
When I was using the Transceptor, before installing the shift kit, I could dial the harshness from soft to full bang. The only problem with it is that it is not variable dependent on throttle input like the shift kit is. It was annoying to have the harsh shifts at light throttle.
What you are experiencing is probably related to the electrical pressure control as Mike said.

Well, I just drove the car again after letting it sit for a few hours and it seemed fine, so I guess I can say this problem may be intermittent. Before it started shifting hard, I did give it a good romp heading up an on-ramp getting on the interstate, I noticed the hard shifts shortly thereafter (could this have something to with it??). You would think that the tranny could withstain an occasional flogging every now and then, wouldnt you? I'm still going to have the dealer look at it, any other thoughts?

It look like a bad "pressure solenoid"

Just bring the car to the dealer and ask them to scan for any tranny malfunctions and tell them your symptom.

Begin with that, and youll be fixed.

If thats the problem then, depending how much they charge, its expensive, mine was 568$ canadian at the dealer.

The code for a bad pressure solenoid is 1811.

And ask for what your warranty can cover,

if this is the pressure solenoid, do repair as soon as you can or it can damage the tranny in long term use.

568 canadian, what is that, roughly 400 US? OUCH!! I hope they may cut me some slack since I noticed this on the second day of owning the car, but you never know with dealerships. Thanks for the great info fellas, and quick replys.
