Default service stability light

the " service stability system" warning is showing up in my data center. I realize the cause may be the steering wheel position sensor as found in recent threads. My question is can the stability system be manually disabled without any ill effect on the car? And in doing so will this put out the warning in the message center? Thanks for your replies! 2000 SSEI

The stability system is likely disabled now. However, if you are asking if there a switch to turn it off, the answer is no. Any other attempt to disable the system will set off some type of warning. The only way that I can think of is to have it programmed out of the PCM.

I can't see programming it out... Wouldnt that be a huge job. You would basically have to reprogram the whole car IMO.How much performance can it hurt really.

Yup, it would be a quite a reprogramming job, but it did answer the question asked. It will do nothing to hurt performance of the car to leave it as it is. It just disables the stabilitrak system.
