Boost dump valve/solenoid... Fact or Fiction?
I have read in previous posts about our SSEi cars having a boost dump valve and solenoid. Could someone explain in detail the purpose of this? Is it really a way for boost to be limited or is it used to regulate/control boost while cruising or shifting? I had asked Zoomer about this and he stated that it does not limit boost, it just regulates it during shifting and cruising. Is it truly necessary to bypass this system when installing a smaller pulley for the 2000+ bonnevilles? If so, could someone give directions on how to do it for the 2000+?

I don't believe it is necessary at all. I didn't do it and I get over 10psi boost with the smaller pulley. I don't feel any boost is being bled off.

You dont have to bypass it but some here have. There is some fealing that when the boost and rpm hit their threshold the bypass cuts in and takes away the boost?
Do a search in performance on how to bypass it.....cheap and easy

I know its cheap and easy, but I dont want to alter my car if I don't have to. The way I look at it is if it is not intended to limit my boost and will not affect it at all, then it is obviously there for some other reason. So I better leave it alone if it doesnt cause any problems.
Thanks for the replys btw.

You'll find that info in Forced Induction, not Performance. Search for boost control, boost limit, bypass (in only forced induction), etc. Should be on one of the first three pages of that category.

Yeah, I have already read that topic.. That is what brought this question up because some of the posts in there says it is not needed and Zoomer also stated that it only regulates the boost during shifting and cruising.

The main reason for messing with it here is for overboost protection. When building a strip car, this can be a major hindrance after an extreme pulley swap. I believe Jeffrey10x2 was the first to bypass for this reason.
I haven't suffered from this malady, but I'm betting my Jet Stage II PCM disabled overboost protection, so that I don't have to re-plumb it.
