Will a bad cv joint cause this?
 

The question is will a bad driver's side cv joint cause the car to pull to the right?? I posted a bit back about what I thought was a bad wheel bearing. I had replaced an outer driver's side tie rod and the sound started not too long after they aligned it. I couldn't really hear what side but when I was going straight or left it was a loud whine that increased with speed. When I turn right or even cut to the right it stops. I shifted into neutral and sound stayed the same so it's not affected by the engine. The pitch goes up as the speed increases.. Everybody here fairly agreed it is the right side bearing. So I get a bearing and put it up on stands today. No play at all in either side from 12-6 and 9-3. Put it in neutral and spin the tires and notice the driver's side CV joint is making the sound. I didn't think a bad cv joint would cause a sound like a bad wheel bearing that only made noise while going straight or left. The big thing that made me nervous is the last day or two the car pulls hard to the right under acceleration and occasionally as I'm driving. Almost feels like something is binding up (kind of like a wheel bearing seizing up or a brake pad grabbing...) Not all the time and it only lasts for a few seconds. It is much more then the average pull the front wheel drive cars have.I can go down the road and it tracks ok and give a bit of gas and only sometimes it pulls off to the right almost like the car was way off alignment. Could the bad cv joint be doing this? While the car was up today I checked the brakes to see if anything like a pad was hanging up and everything look ok. No sound at all from the right side and nothing loose. I also swapped tires around to see if perhaps it was a bad tire. I'm stumped.

If the driver's side axle is not getting the torque to the drivers wheel, then you will pull to the left on acceleration. I think you need to pull the boot back and take a look at the joint and axle.

I would double check the brakes first. The location is close to the axle and brakes are more common to make a noise like you describe.

If they appear normal, replace the CV shaft. Maybe one of the bearing pieces have dried out and need to be replaced.

I'm in the process of replacing the CV axle and am still a bit curious about it making the whining noise when going straight or left but no noise going right or even just bumping to the right. Would the CV axle do that? I just figured it would make that sound no matter what direction it's going.
