wierd outside mirror issue (now replacement issue)

I got in my GXP and noticed the passenger outside mirror was pointing way far out. It hadn't changed properly to my settings (driver #2), so I moved it manually. It functions manually just fine, I can move it in all directions and it stays put. Then when you turn off the car and get back in (or put the car in reverse which makes it point down) the mirror freaks out and points weird and starts clicking like its broken. Then when I manually move it, everything works just fine. So I get out of the car to do a thorough inspection and notice a nice gash in the plastic housing like a large stone hit it or maybe a bicycle or something. The housing isn't cracked or broken and neither is the actual mirror. I can't understand how the mirror can function perfectly with the manual control but clicks and stutters and freaks out when the automatic control tries to position it. Any thoughts? Are there sensors in there or something that makes it remember it's programmed positions? Am I looking at a $500 repair bill?

Assuming that you are driver one, set your mirrors how you want them, then press and hold the #1 on the driver's door above the arm rest (assuming it's in the same place) until you hear it beep twice. That should set the mirror memory. See if that takes care of the problem.

He's driver #2...but it sounds like he has set the memory but it acts up when he recalls it. :?

I would try resetting the memory though if you haven't already per Archon's directions.

Oops...don't know how I missed the driver #2 in the original post. If resetting yours doesn't work...try do the reset on both driver 1 and 2. On your setting, if its moving from #1 to #2, it somehow sees your setting as being beyond the range of movement.

I found the issue. Pulled the mirror lense off and one of the clip-in brackets is broke. Damn! That will not be cheap. The clips are molded into the whole movement mechanism that has the wiring harness molded to it. Big pain I'm sure. Can anyone tell me the part number for this item? It's RH mirror. The numbers stamped on the mechanism are 713278,713279 and 713558 ????

Found some websites selling item number 25736306 but I guess there is one with
memory and one without. I show prices varying from $72 to $400. Can anyone tell me
the exact number for the RH outside mirror with ALL options, heat, & memory? Also can you just buy the guts. I don't really need the whole body part. I'd like to avoid MR. DEALER on this one if I can.

bump. Can anyone answer my questions from the previous post?

Haven't found information on a part number, but perhaps this will help with your other queston.

When mine broke, I found, GM would only sell the whole assembly with the outer bezel,
I ended up buying a used mirror assembly from a JY I found at www.car-part.com
I just swapped the guts into my car so I didnt have to worry about paint.

It looks like GMpartsdirect sells them for $248 (if I have the correct number??) and all the salvage yards want $200. I did find a new aftermarket one on ebay starting at 190 with no bids yet. It looks like GMpartsdirect would be the best bang for the bucks as long as I'm getting the genuine new part and don't have to try to return the wrong item.
