Default what fuse to pull for check engine

hey everyone, my inspection is running out in about 3 days give or take a couple of hours, and my check engine light came on this week (great timing) i got the code and it had to do with the gas cap being rusted, so i sanded that down and bought a new cap, problem is i cant get he car inspected while the light is on, and ive been doing some searching on here and havent found a way to clear it.

on a side note, if any one has had any luck with clearing the lock code on the radio, i tried pulling the fuse and that worked for 3 car starts then stopped (its locked again) ive also tried the holding down 2 and 3 method, but i cant get a code to appear, thanks in advance

-dan hubel :? (my first car haha so im new to all of this)

It cannot be cleared (the code) until the problem is found.

woom, What was the problem with the mil? (check engine) Depending on the code history it could clear itself after a specific number of start cycles with out the original problem that set the dtc existing. The best way to clear the dtc is with a scan tool or a tech II scan tool. Now, your radio shouldn't be LOC unless it is from another Bonneville with a different vin. The radios in the 2000+ Bonnes are vin specific meaning that the vin of your car is encoded in the radio. It is not like the older generation Bonnes where you had to key in a password using the radio buttons to remove the LOC. You follow me.

i dont have the exact code written down but i did a search a little while ago and it was something about the opening to the gas tank being rusty, so i just sanded off the rust and got a new cap since the oring on the old one looked pretty shotty, about the scan tool, i dont have one and i know auto palace checks your lights for free, do they also clear it for free?

yeah i recently bought the radio from a member here ( bonnevillemac) to replace my radio, does that mean i cant use the radio at all? thanks for the response mark and Bonneville94V688

*update* just pulled the battery for half an hour and plugged back in the code is cleared now, now i just have to hope my fix worked, thank you.

You can normally scan and clear the code at an autozone for free.
The gas cap one is common and can take along time to rest on its own, 50 starts or something like that.
If you had visable rust and a shoty O ring than I'm sure you got it fixed right.

You need to go to a gm dealer and have the radio programmed with a tech 2, not sure what you will have to pay. $20 is all its worth imo.
