Default Check engine light on with flash!

I keep adding new threads because I keep seeming to have new problems. Like I have mentioned, I replaced the LIM gaskets 2 weeks ago. When I did that I replaced everything; the coolant elbow, SC gasket, throttle body gasket, valve cover gaskets, and O2 sensor. It ran great, then the service engine soon light came on. I had it read and it was the catalytic converter. He cleared it and it came on again. This time it was running lean. He said to spray some carb cleaner around the vaccum lines and if it was there it would rev up, well it did not rev up. Then the light went out and now it is back on. I decided to go out today and really see what she has. I ran an approx 105 in the 1/4mile. I ended up going about 130 when the service engine soon light started flashing. I slowed down, stopped, and turned it off. The light was still on but was not flashing. When I got home I popped the hood and it was smoking off of the exhaust underneath the valve covers. I thought I fixed that with the new gaskets but it did not smell like anything???!! Not oil or burning coolant. My coolant level has been slowly diminising still. I am noting too many problems here or is there something that could tie all these together. I have no misfire or any problems at idle. It runs awesome!!! Please help!!

Did you get a Felpro gasket for the supercharger that included the coolant O-rings? Any indication at all where the coolant may be leaking? The flashing check engine indicates a potential catalyst damaging condition, generally a severe misfire.

Check the routing of the vacuum lines. Somehow I assume you are getting a P0171 Lean Bank One code. I recently found my EVAP purge valve to be hooked up backwards to the vac lines. Normally I wouldn't think much of it...but when chasing an issue.

It may be helping..I'm not 100% sure, gives you a couple things to look at though.

My guess is your stored codes are lean condition and random multiple misfire (p0171, p0300). Running those speeds under load with a lean condition is a bad idea. Pull all your plugs and look at them, find any of them smashed?

Yeah! Those are the codes! So, I need to check that my vacuum lines are hooked up properly and check the plugs? If a plug is smashed, wouldn't I notice that in the way it idles or runs for that matter? I will check them. When I replaced the plugs and wires about 5 months ago was when I started having all of the misfire problems. I did it as regular maintanece and it has opened a whole new can of worms. I replaced the wires as well and I am certain that the #6 plug wire is not touching the O2 sensor. I guess I am kind of stumped. Before I left for work today, I noticed that there was a small puddle of coolant on the driveway from last night. I work in an office so I was not able to just crawl under there to see but I seems far back from the front end. Almost like it was towards the back of the motor, like about where the oil pan is. I am going to check it out tonight but that is another issue as well. Thanks for the input!!

I started asking questions about this problem in the performance issue but it has turned into a major problem so I have moved it here. You asked me to check my plugs to see if there was damage from a chipped piston....well here is the pic......I think I am going to be sick I cannot believe I didn't catch this!!!! The plug on the left is from cylinder #2 and the right is #4. Obviously 4 is worse. No wonder I was getting the misfire code! Is this what a plug looks like from a chipped piston?? Please give me some good news if you can or anyone for that matter :(

Sorry, I can't go to bed...I am worried sick that I really f***** up my car! I was searching some other threads and found some people with similar problems before. Did not give me any comfort. One guy said that the cat failed and caused the exhaust blockage that led to chunked pistons. Mine had a cat code last week, but never came back on after we cleared it. Also, one other guy mentioned that the plug damage could be from a piece of carbon breaking off the top of the piston and breaking the plug. I did just replace the LIM gasket and then ran some seafoam through the gas to clean everything out. I guess I will go down a bottle of NyQuil to go to sleep. Also, worst case scenario, I did chunk a piston, is there a thread somewhere explaining how to fix. I have an idea and I have an alldata subscription and lots of time, so any input is appreciated.

How many miles on the plugs? Was coolant getting into the cylinders when you had the intakes done?

Ok..those plugs show that you had some detonation.

You need new plugs. You also need to find the source of your lean condition. Check for vacuum leaks. Being that you replaced the gaskets recently, it'* possible that you have a vac line incorrect or not hooked up. Follow all vac diagrams and ensure proper routing. If you don't find any bad lines or incorrectly hooked up... get a couple of cans of carb or TB cleaner. With the motor running, spray at every gasket area and all vacuum ports. When the idle changes, you concentrate in that area. That'* where your leak is located.

ONe thing you've said sticks in my mind, and that is that you started having problems when you did the plugs and wires about 5 months ago. To me, this says that either you got a bad set of wires, or a cracked plug or two, or you accidently created a vacuum leak/problem while in the bay. Something along those lines.

Like Bill says, do a through review of all your vacuum lines to make sure they are properly routed and that none are leaking. Check all the rubber connectors, elbows, and tees for cracks. make sure you even check the connections at your evap cannister, as that is an area that gets missed often.

I also think maybe you should take a look at you Cat to ensure it is indeed not clogged, since that has come up.
