Cool AC Question

2000 ssei 90k miles- no record of AC service.

blows cool-ish no change from city to highway. my neighbor, a residential/commercial heating and cooling tech was going to refill it but when he hooked up his gauges he said the suction and pressure were excellent and it did not need gas. does this system have a line filter that could be the issue? any troubleshooting I can do without the fancy AC tools to find
the issue?

Thanks~

I don't know of any line filters. Does the air blow hard threw the vents? It'* possible the EVAP core is dirty and needs a cleaning. There is a EVAP cleaning write up in the tech info area.

If the pressures are excellent, I would be inclined to look elsewhere in all honesty. The only filter like device I am aware of is the orifice tube, but if that was clogged up, that would throw the pressure numbers off, and your friend would have seen that. What pressures did your friend find on the high and low side. What is good for residential may not be good for automotive applications.

Yes I asked him exactly that, but he assured me he'* been filling autos on the side for many years. I don't remember what the pressure reading was

Condensor core could also need cleaning. That'* the one behind the radiator. A clogged evaporator core will result in little or no flow out of the vents and a big ice ball on the core itself.

the air flow from the vents is great. one thing i did notice is that i don't see a big puddle of water under the car after I run it fior a while

Puddle under the car simply indicates that the evaporator is colder than dew point, and the water is draining as it should. Are both sides the same temp? If you go full hot to full cold, does it change as it should?
