Default My baby'* getting a new PCM.

I am putting a new PCM from Intense Racing tomorrow morning in my 2001 SSEi and right after that I am getting the CASE learn done. I can't wait to see how she does with it. From everything I have heard I should see some real improvment. Now it'* just a matter of waiting 17 hours.

Got mine recently too. Haven't really got on it because of the heat here, but it feels better. Haven't got the case learn done because I can't find anyone to do it. Even if I explain what it is and that it takes all of five minutes, they want to charge me $100.00. I don't think so. Plus the car seems to run fine without it.

Please don't take the car over 1/2 throttle until you get the CASE done. This is not an optional step.

No problem there, I am headed right to the dealership, all in town driving.

Thanks for the input.

BTW, I just finished the Security learn, no problems.

There is a variation between the 3x, 18x crank sensors in all cars. The crankshaft variation learn procedure teaches the PCM what this variation is. Based on that variation the PCM can determine how to skew its request for timing. For example, if the sensors are off by +3 degrees, the PCM would learn this and when it wants 15 degrees it would ask for 12 to get the 15 (12 +3).

Now, take a PCM that has a learned variation of -3 and stick it in a car with an actual variation of +3. The PCM wants 15 degrees so it askes for 18 (18 -3 = 15) however the actual variation is +3 so the car is now getting 21 (18 +3 = 21). I think you can see where this is going. If you reverse this and take a positive variation PCM and put it in a negative variation car you would be safe however you would be giving up quite a bit of performance.

Make sense?

Makes perfect sense. I've never heard it explained like that, So basically without having a case learn done, you could either be getting less timing which would equal slower then you could be, OR you could be demanding too much timing which can harm the motor.
Looks like I'll be getting it done.
Thanks!

Default CASE Learn is done.

The dealership didn't want to do the CASE learn at first, concerned that something with the car or computer would mess up. Finally convinced them to go ahead after I pulled my original PCM from the trunk and showed them I could swap back if we had to. I thought I was really stuck there for a minute.

Holy @#$%

On my drive home once traffic opened up I decided to get on it and go WOT to see what would happen, at 65 mph the car dropped 2 gears and shot to about 5500 rpm and from the time I hit it to the time I was able to look at the speedo I was already at 105. Holy @#$%.

Not to mention the fact that that stupid 35/40 mph lag is gone.

So far very pleased.
