Default New Intermediate Shaft- What IS the Diff

Can anyone tell us what the difference is in the original shaft and the revised one (P/N 26068295)?

Picture would be super.

I don't have a picture, but the TSB describes it this way.

The replacement steering intermediate shaft is physically different in appearance than the original. However, the vehicle'* ride performance will not be affected.

Replace the original concentric style steering shaft with P/N 26068295, a Double "D" design.

Thanks archon,

Have you seen one? What does the double "D" refer to?

I have not seen one as of yet. The current concentric shaft has one circular shaft inside the other, with splines on the inner shaft.

As I understand the double D, it is basically a round shaft with flats on opposite sides to give it sort of an oval shape. The top U joint of the current ISS is that type. This is the best picture of what I have that would show that.

Thanks for the pics. I am most familiar with my current one. I often wonder if the slight scrunching sound is coming from the universal OR the steering wheel bearing. Has anyone replaced the shaft and the noise/feel NOT gone away?[/u]

OK, as you're familiar with the current one, where the top U joint slips into the steering column, that is the double D design.

I don't recall anyone reporting that they still had the clunk after replacing the intermediate shaft.
