hello all im a new member thats beenl urking for a few weeks and absorbing as much info about my new car as possibe.

ok here is the factual info,
2001 bonnie, w/ 23K mi.
front rotors were clean and smooth. I decided to change over brake pads to the new Ray Bestoes (sp) cermic pads.

with in 20 miles the pads warped my roters (sevire vibbration @ 60mph while braking)

spoke to a trusted brake mechanic and he explained that RB changed over there compound 6 months agao and it has been destroying rotors ever since. His shop alone has had to warntee over 415 pads, due to this problem.
what is happening is the RB ceramic pads are not dissapating heat and instead "transfering" it back to the roters. The stock rotors are not designed to handel the increased heat load and then start to warp.

So far this only applys to RB QS caeramic pads

Sorry to hear about the bad brake news. It important that if you do go ceramic pads then you upgrade your rotors accordingly.

You have to go and get asbestist(sp) brake pads from mexico
--they still make them

The original stock pads on 96 and up Bonnevilles were ceramics. They were a much softer pad than the RB'*. I am in the process of replacing my 8 month old brakes with Raybestos Brute Stops and these pads.

thanks for the RB suggestion . frankley I may use this oppurtiny of warped roters to upgrade to better quality ones.

Hmmm...very interesting.

I'm not disagreeing that you experienced what you experienced, but I find the exact opposite.

On both my Bonne'*, I upgraded to raybestos ceramics, and always intended to upgrade the rotors. But in both cases, I got so sick of the brake dust, I just put the ceramics on, thinking I would put the rotors on later.

The 97 went from 65k to 130k on the same set of pads, and stock rotors. Pad life was great, and the rotors never warped. And I drive like I was running from the law. (Hard stops from 85 MPH every morning on a really fun corner on the way to work.)

On my 2000, I have put on the same brand pads, and painted the calipers BRIGHT red. Looks good, IMHO, and have yet to see a problem. Seems as though I will get similar durability. I still intend on putting on slotted rotors, mostly for the look.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, but wanted to give my opinion of the ceramics.

Im happy that you had a Positive experience freddi.

The brake tech informed me that the RB pads work great, execpt for the ones made from 6 months till now. they changed there brake compound back then and buggered it all up.

mabie (just a theory) you were luckey and got pads that were made before the compound change.

eitherway you are happy and did not get burned....cool

as for me, this experence left a bad taste in my mouth. Unless RB oferes me as hot redhead with big *****, a bag of cash, and some mouthwash I wont run with rb ceramic pads for a while.

Did you contact them? Delco may make the same pad they used to make? I will contact them due to still recommending their product.
