Default running SER2 L67 w/o SC belt????

OK so im not talking about my Bonne, but the Regals got the same engine NE wayz .......I forgot which engine it was the SER1 L67 or the SER2 L67 that could be run without the SC belt and only lose the A/C and some other minor accessory....I ask this because on my way home tonight the SC belt went kerploooie (I really shoulda listened when they said I would need a larger tensioner or a smaller belt with the 3.4" pulley) the whole rest of the way home the car drove fine (as an 8.5:1 CR 3.8 v6 can with no boost) it didnt even start to get hot, as I watched all the gauges on the car with an eagle eye, and my power steering worked fine, I didnt need the AC as the heat was on in the car (45 degrees and I wuss out) maby the reason it didnt overheat was because I had the heater on, but I meen if the waterpump wasnt pumping ANYthing I would think it would at least go over the halfway mark on the temp gauge, which it didnt. As a matter of fact if it werent fot the lack of boost and therefore passing power it felt fine.....almost like a 4cyl Camry LOL

you are fine to run the car without the supercharger belt on the Series II engine. The supercharger is the only "accessory" on that belt. No damaage will be done, the car will just be much much slower. (even slower than the NA engines by far.)

Good deal thanks for the info......YES VERY VERY SLOW.....like I gave it about half throttle and the car shot off like a dart then when the belt gave it like felt like an air brake....I was like CRAP either the SC just blew or the belt came off......the rest of the way home was like driving my old 91 Regal with a plug wire pulled!!!

yes it will run very poorly with no SC. This is due to the lower compression, heavier internals, taller gearing, a LOT less timing, PCM programming that is giving it the fuel for the air it SHOULD be getting. Not only that, but the intake is horribly restrictive because all the air has to go through the rotors on the blower, so the engine will actually be spinning the blower to suck in air. So, yes it probably has like 150hp or so...just a guess though, could be wrong.

But, future advice, keep better track of your belts, they are cheap to replace and don't go bad that often. Unless there is a problem with one of the idlers or something there is really no excuse for a belt to go on a car IMO. I don't think not having a larger tensioner was really your problem here...it may have helped the situtation, but not a lot.

yeah im gonna get a shorter belt tommorow at work, and that will prolly due...the old belt was in good shape but when i did the 3.4" it was a little on the loose side, but shorter belt should cure that.

Unless it was rediculously loose, it was worn out or you have a bad idler or something. A belt won't just break because its "a little on the loose side." People run stock size belts on GTP'* with 3.25" pullies with no problems at all.
