Transmission problem???
 

I flushed at 78,000 and again at 127,000. I'm at 131,000 now. I just started noticing last week when I start the car in the morning and put it in reverse, it seems to hesitate going in gear a few seconds. The rest of the day it is fine. This is new. Is something going on here? If so, what do I check? Or is it just my OCD about my car kicking in?

Check the fluid level and color on the dipstick and check back with us.

Fluid level is exactly on full. Good pinkish red color. It did have a few small bubbles on it. I ran the car for about 15 minutes, then checked it according to the directions in the owners manual. I noticed that when I put it in reverse, it makes a clicking/pop sound that is different than when I put in in drive. the motor doesn't move much at all, so the mounts seems ok. After thinking this through, it might be that in the morning, i jump in the car and crank it and drop it in reverse immediately and quick. Maybe I'm not giving it enough time to get the fluid where it should be to throw it in gear. I will do it slower tomorrow.

Is that level when it's hot or cold? It needs to be hot. Did you change the filter when you did the flush?

It was hot. Not sure about the filter. The place that flushed it did it correctly I feel sure. I've been using this place for years. Seems like they told me that with a proper flush and fill, that the filter did not need changing. Said it gets flushed out with the flush. Is that fact or fiction?

The filter definitely should have been changed BUT... Even with my dirty filter after 85,000 miles, mine still shifted in and out of all the gears just fine.

If the filter SHOULD have been changed, why was yours dirty at 85,000 miles. Don't you practice what you preach?

I had to look the vehicle history up in Carfax to find the service history.

I got around to the trans fluid and filter once I got everything else tuned up.

You know as well as me, we all have good intentions on keeping a clean service history but we tend to let some things slide. I bought the car with 127K on it and I didn't get the carfax report until recently. Carfax told me the trans was serviced at 83K, now it has 165K. If I would have known earlier, it would have been done earlier.

If you get a chance, use a stopwatch and time how long it takes yours to shift, I can check mine too just for the heck of it. I am wondering if we are talking like 2-3 seconds or something crazy like 5-8 seconds.
