My (2000) window regulator has a broken plastic slide gate. I have viewed the issues on fixing the window regulators at

My regulator has a metal slug mounted directly on the cable, positioned in the middle of the slide gate. The slide gate plastic is broken, allowing the cable (w/ slug) to pass through the slide gate without moving the window.

The slide gate has many stress cracks.

Does anyone have a slide gate that I can purchase, or is there a fix for this type of slide gate. In reviewing the above website, a spring is located in the middle of the slide gate, as well as mount location for the cable ends. Mine has no spring, and the cables do not attach to the slide gate. I also have no black plastic piece mounted on the slide gate.

If you look closely at the pictures in that article you will notice that they too have "lead" slugs on the ends of the cable just like yours. This repair is for the slide gate, in addition to addressing the possiblity of a tangled cable.

It is possible that yours broke enough to lose pieces inside the door, leaving nothing left for you to see that holds the cable in place. If your are convinced that yours is different ('cause anything is possible), then post a couple pics that are clear enough for someone here to help you.

That techinfo article is for the rear window regulators. It sounds as if you are having trouble with the front, which has a different design. I haven't torn into those yet, so if you could post some pictures of your problem, we may be able to help you out.

That Front regulator slide piece is REALLY cracked! Wow!

That one looks like it might be trickier to repair, but it seems that it might still be possible using some variation of the rear regulator slide fix.

I follow the same idea as presented for the rear regulator. I used scraps around the garage - had 2" wide (3/16") bar stock. Cut a 3/8" strip - ending up with 3/8" wide x 2". Made (2) 90 degree bends - formed a 'U' shape. On each end I used a cutoff wheel and slit the ends about 1/4" up - allowing the cable to fit into the cutoff wheel slot. I placed the U shaped metal into position - nice tight fit. In the photo, my handy work on shaping the U is a little crude due to excess thickness of the metal involved - but it worked first time, so I left it.

I cut a 3/8" piece of (plastic) delrin (3/8" - thickness) to match the length required for the damaged slide gate opening; and rounded the end on the grinder to match the opening. Slide it into place - again - tight fit. The other end of the slide needed a small plastic piece simply rounded - again to match damaged opening.

Everything seemed very secure.

I purchased a new tube of Auto Goop and applied over the top of the inserted plastic pieces, as well as the formed bracket.

I would say it took 15 minutes to complete the U shaped bracket, plus the plastic parts.

I noticed that the last photo of the finished piece is blurry - sorry! I will take another shot in the morning after the Goop is dried. If it is any better - I will submit.

I do not believe that I will have problems but if I do - I will advise!

Great job! It looks good. It doesn't have to be "pretty" - it just has to work. Did you take pictures as your progressed through the project?

55555, what area of the country do you live in? I know it'* a stretch, but could the plastic cracking be a fault of the environment combined with age?
