Top side, just a ratchet and a spark plug socket, maybe an extension.

For the 2000 and newer body style with the 'forward' firewall, underneath may be easier as in the W body platform.

The H bodies do it from on top.

John, think of halfway between our firewall and STB. It'* tight. As tight as a W body.

well..that engine "eyelet" that helps hold the cover on the engine can be removed for added clearance, or you can hook a cherry picker to it, unbolt the rear engine mount and pull the engine forward about 2 inches for more clearence. Other than that, a short extention[3in] and a 1/2in drive socket set would do.

You can remove the alternator support bar and the map sensor bracket (also holds the engine cover on) and with those removed it easy to get too by feel from the top.

I had no trouble geting at the plugs from the top. You do have to snake your arm around underneath things, though. I did plugs 2 and 4 from the passenger side and 6 from the driver'* side. The plugs aren't as much the problem as the boots. If they didn't have a good coating of silicone on them, they glue themselves to the plugs. Wear a long sleeved shirt, and gloves, if you can. You will be getting beat getting beat up by the engine compartment, and probably even learn a few new cuss words.

I appreciate the reply Archon, it is extremely tight back there. If that wasn't enough, there is also these huge AC hoses running along the firewall right where I would like to put my hand through. You're right about the boots too. I'm going have to pull them off by hand, as there is no room for boot pliers.

Yea, pulling those boots after not having any grease on them is a beast. Either get that silicone grease or get some new wires.
