Sun Roof malfunction Q
My sunroof doesn't work anymore. I hear the motor run, but absolutely no movement. I seems that either a cable or lever has unhooked. My question is, where would I access this device that have aparently unhooked? I'm hoping someone has been down this road:) I hope I donot have to drop the headliner to hook this thing back up? Thanks for any help!

To the best of my knowledge, you're the first sunroof failure in the 2k crowd, and there haven't been more than 3 or 4 in the 92-99 crowd that I can recall either.
I'm not as familiar with yours, but I'd bet that like the 92-99, you'll need to remove the headliner to access it all. You'll need to start with the A, B, and C pillar trim pieces, then drop the headliner. I'm not sure how difficult it will be to remove from the car without damage. It's quite a trick on the 92-99. Do any of the 2k guru's have any pointers per the FSM of what he can expect to be causing it? |

In addition to Will's instructions, you'll also need to remove the assist handles and pull down the door seals from the upper edges of the door frames. There is a headliner wiring harness which you'll need to disconnect. The headliner is removed through the right rear door opening. As for the problem, it's going to be hard to know for sure until you get in there. My guess from your description is the actuator motor assembly. The FSM outlines some very specific and important steps to follow. It can be a complicated alignment procedure if you don't heed the warnings of the bible (FSM). If you're going to tackle this and don't have and FSM, now would be a really good time to invest in one. There is nothing specific in the FSM about the motor running, but no movement of the glass. Diagnostics don't seem to be mechanical in nature ;) |
I was searching for what tsbs there were for my 02 and I came across one about sunroof problems. I don't have access to the full tsb but here is the info I found.
Make : PONTIAC Model : BONNEVILLE Year : 2002 Manufacturer : GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Service Bulletin Num : 070602 Date of Bulletin: JUN 07, 2002 NHTSA Item Number: 637212 Component: VISIBILITY:SUN ROOF ASSEMBLY Summary: REPORTS OF INOPERATIVE SUNROOFS WHEN DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES DOES NOT IDENTIFY A CAUSE. *TT Check to Request Research. Thanks a bunch guys. I will probably try to fix this as the weather warms up a bit more. I don't believe I will have to adjust anyything, just hook something back up or replace a broken part. I can run the motor, and then slide it back, then slide it forward etc. I'll take it slow on the disasembly and figure it out:)

Uh......Will....you can add one more to your list.......ive had the same problem since last fall.

Perhaps that was a single year TSB, as I can not locate any information on it via AllData, either for 2000, or the demo 2003 model years.

I have 2000 SSEi and my sunroof doesnt work either, first the tilt stopped working, then when I tryed closing it one time the motor started making a grinding noise and now nothing works ecept for the grinding and the right rear corner of the assembly is sinking so water comes through in car washes. I think I just need a new rack unless if anyone knows of a possible fix.
