Default A/C is "kinda" cold

Okay, so I took the car in yesterday to have the AC checked. I've been having a problem where the air is not getting as cold as it use to and occasionally it sounded and felt as if the compressor was seizing up (when this would happen Volts would drop from 14.5 to 12.0, but then come back up to 14.5 immediately). They told me it was low on coolant so I had them recharge it. Today I notice that the air is still not getting cold. Eventually it does get "cool" but never really cold like it use to. Its HOT in Florida and riding around in a black car with failing AC just won't work. Any thoughts anyone? THANKS.

Any difference between the driver'* and passenger'* sides? If you turn the temp all the way up, then all the way down, any difference then?

Are both cooling fans running at high speed? Is the a/c compressor running continuously, or cycling?

Well, today I tried playing with a little more. I turned it up all the way to 90Fthen back down to 60F. It did get good in warm after a minute on the high temp. Then went back down when I changed it back acordingly. Both sides were the same temp and I rarely if ever change both temp. settings. I'm not sure what you mean about the compressor cycling. The momentary shaking/siezing does seem to occur most when the car is in gear and the fan is running at high speed. Earlier today the air was ice cold, but later on it slowly became less and less cold. Weird.

You could be having a connection problem or a relay problem that'* turning the compressor and the concommitant radiator cooling fans off and then back on. When the compressor clutch coil connects it draws some current but the cooling fans on the radiator draw a lot and load my motor temporarily when they cut in. That might explain your voltage variation.

It could be a grounding problem Check the ground connections to see if they're tight.

With the motor running and inside blower on medium the temperatures of the freon coming out of the evaporator should be about the same coldness as the freon going in. See if you can tough those with your fingers for a few seconds to gauge the temperature involved.

The drop in voltage reading bothers me. Could be alternator cutting out? could be ground? Could be hot wire connections... Do the lights change brightness when the voltage drop occurs?

Comprerssor cycling= a/c clutch engaging/disengaging every few seconds, or at short intervals. You know, compressor cycling on & off. Both cooling fans out in engine compartment are running, correct? Can you turn the compressor by hand, does it feel hard to turn?

Yes, the compressor is cycling and seems to be operating normally and the fans are working too. Had to get to work early today so I didn't try to turn it by hand, but it was just examined at a garage and I can only imagine that if something was wrong with it they would have jumped on the opportunity to sell me a new one. My voltage does seem to be all over the place though, on the way into work today it was @ 14.9 with the air on. When the shutter occures I can't say I notice any of the lights going dim. It seem to mostly effect the engine, feels like a power drain.
