Steering Wheel Position Sensor
 

I was wondering if anybody could give me the part number for the SWPS [ steering wheel position sensor]. It is located on the bottom of the column. I was looking around on some sites but nobody even lists it. I would appreciate any help!

But once you're at that site look under Brakes/Antilock/Stability Control after inputing year/make/model. I believe it is part of the stability control system.

oh ok....did your's fail???? havent heard of that happening before.... let us know if so on how to fix...take pics ;)

yep, when this sensor is faulty, youll get a "stability service system" light on the dic
and the assisted steering system will be disengaged. Nothing dangerous for daily driving.

nitro, The steering wheel position sensor inputs steering wheel position in angular degrees to the Stability Enhancement System (Stabilitrac). The stability system must know steering wheel position (direction of front wheels) in order to respond accordingly by applying differential brake pressure to the left or right front wheel. The system basically tries to correct for oversteer & understeer.

Thanks for the link! That is the part I need but it doesn't show the part number. I will try a few other things looking for it in the mean time.

You've got basically the right idea,but there's quite a bit more to the Stabilitrac System............along with the ABS system(to detect a wheel losing traction),.the steerinng wheel position sensor works in conjunction with the stability sensor(a lateral accelerometer located at the center of the car[I know in the Grand Prixs it's under the center console between the seats]),......when the two sensors detect a discrepancy between the direction you are steering(steering wheel position sensor)and the direction your car is Actually going(lateral accelerometer) it kicks in the Stabilitrac.........and depending on whether the car is oversteering (rear wheel losing traction during a turn/curve,causing the back of the car to 'spin out') or understeering(front wheel losing traction during a turn,causing the car to 'plow through'/miss a curve) the Stabilitrac System will apply braking to Either the outside FRONT brake(in oversteering) or the inside REAR brake(in understeering). ;)
