Steering Clunk and Tire Pressure Sensor
 

2000 SE with 14K miles.

Two questions:

1) Just picked this low mileage car up and am noticing a steering clunk inside the car when turning at low speeds or when in park. Outside of the car I can hear nothing. I've read some posts about an intermediate steering shaft issue and am wondering if this is the problem?

2) Am considering upgrading my wheels and am curious if this will effect the tire pressure monitoring system. How exactly does this system work?

You'll have to excuse me, I'm new to the Bonneville world. :D I've been driving a '96 Cutty for six years and know it front to back!

Item (1) That very much sounds like the symptoms of the intermediate shaft problem.

Item (2) Wheel upgrade should not have any affect on the tire pressure monitor.

Thanks for the response. What does the shaft fix entail? Is this something I could do myself or is it a fairly inexpensive fix for a shop?

Aren't the tire pressure sensors on the wheels?

I think the thing with the sensors is it detects when the car isnt sitting level on one side.

The Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS) are integrated into the hub assembly on each hub.
The sensors monitor rotational speed of each of the 4 wheels, then input signals to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). The EBCM also communicates via serial bus to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) the staus of tire pressure based on the WSS inputs to the EBCM. Hope that makes sense. 8)
