Stability Control System-ABS-Traction Control
 

I've read about every post about this problem but nothing with exactly same conditions.

1. Lubed intermed. shaft about 1 year ago. Went smooth, but not much help. Found out intermed. shaft had been replaced by dealer a year earlier.
2. Started getting Stability Control System (SCS) light intermittently about once per several months. Lately has been getting message several times per day. Each time I hit "Reset" the message goes away until next occurance. Autozone found no code.
3. After reading all posts I think I tied it down to Steering Wheel Postition Sensor.
4. I was getting ready to order a new one but got MORE LIGHTS a couple of days ago.
5. Two days ago I was driving interstate, steady speed, no braking, when I got SCS light plus ABS and Traction Control Off (TCO)!!!
6. This morningI I got no warning messages until aout half-way through a 250 mile drive, then I get all three at once. I now get all three messages each time I start the car. I can reset the SCS light but the ABS and TCO stay on.
7. There is no apparent problems with buzzing ABS, abnormal ABS applied, etc.
8. BTW I replaced both front wheel bearings with new ones about 2 wks.. Have only received the SCS intermittently the whole time.

Should I be planning a trip to the dealer for code read or do you think the Wheel Position Sensor could cause all of this?

The steering position sensor, yaw sensor, wheel speed sensor (in the hub), or lateral accelerometer could all cause the problems that you are describing. History here has shown the steering angle sensor (steering wheel position sensor) to be the most frequent cause of it. However, as you've just replaced your hubs, I'd start there. Check to be certain that the connectors are clean and tight, and check the wiring to them. Perhaps you got a bad sensor in the new hub. Do you have access to a scanner that can read those sensors?

The steering wheel position sensor is not an easy replacement. The column has to be pulled, and you have to see which particular sensor type your car has. There is a lengthy TSB regarding it.

No, unless AutoZone's will read WSS's. I thought only Tech I's could read ABS codes but maybe the AutoZone scanner can read at least hard codes set by WSS malfunction?. At least I could use my DVOM and measure AC output with wheels rotating 1 RPM per sec. Can't remember the exact voltage but know it is is mVolts. I think that voltage is on this site somewhere.

<<Check to be certain that the connectors are clean and tight, and check the wiring to them>> I plan to do that today, although I distinctly remember when I connected up the terminals they pressed in nicely with a nice little "click". I sprayed the terminals with dielectric contact cleaner as well.

When my Steering Pos Sensor went out, I had Cruise control disengaging, Trac Control light coming on, and brakes lightly engaging.. All going down the highway, usually going up hills for some reason. Soon followed by the "Service Stability System" on the dash around town. Luckily it was warratied this time. So I am good for another 22K miles....... :evil:

Cruise control fine. Brakes not acting up at all.

I'm making appt. with dealer Monday (I hate doing this) to have the codes read. I'm tired of fooling with it.... messing with my mind.

Let us know what happens with the dealer visit.

Yeah I would go up a hill, and it's like you a huge gust of wind hit the car, or if I was lightly tapping the brakes. You felt it slowing a little bit. I assume it was applying a little brake thinking it was in a spin.

Cruise control, In one 369 mile trip, popped out suddenly two times.. Since the Steering sensor was replaced, it never happened again. It all sounds inter-related thinking back.. Good luck at the dealer!!!

The trip to the dealer, or a well equipped shop, may save you money in the long run. That way you can get an idea as to where the problem is rather than replacing good parts.

Yep. I'll give you guys feedback. That's what this site is all about right?
