Default Noisey Torque Converter.

I have a noise coming from the trans, only when in gear. The noise gets worse when accelerating. I believe it to be the torque converter, but am not positive. I am also experiencing a stutter or miss-like feeling at approx 2k rpm and traveling at 45 plus mph.
I had noticed people mentioning the TCC as a common problem. Could the TCC cause one or either symptom? And does the converter need to be replaced in order to eliminate the noise.

For anyone who is at all familar, the noise is a grinding and sounds very similar to the late 90'* Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC engine when the timing chain cassettes go bad.

RPM - welcome. First - could you put your year and trim level in your profile signature. It will help us to answer your questions more specifically.

You could be experiencing a torque converter problem, but let'* check a few other things first. How is the level of your transmission fluid? When was it last replaced? What is it'* condition. Is it bright pink like new, or is it brownish and has a burnt smell to it?

Currently the fluid is full and the condition is pretty good. The fluid was brown and burnt, however I just replaced the pan gasket because it was leaking and the level was low. I might flush it but since I do not know the maint history of the car I am not sure if I would rather do a few drop and drains instead.

I just went out and duplicated the same situations as in the video and it sounds identical. Is this a common problem? and can it be fixed?

Thanks for your help

sorry to say, but my tranny was trashed... the dif retaining pin had broke and the dif shaft was grinding away at the inside of the core....their were metal shavings the size of pencil grindings in the filter and such, and the valve body was completely stuffed full. i still have the tranny as a core, and i had a used one with 43k on it installed by a friend from around here. if you want to go with the used route, check www.car-part.com, or if you want a performance rebuild check out www.intense-racing.com, or www.zzperformance.com

how many miles do you have on her? and how do you drive? one-wheel burnouts?
