slight surge/chugging problem

We just bought another bonne, a 2003 ssei. We absolutely love the car, has 59k. Only issue other than the intermediate shaft is when we are on the highway going up a hill in overdrive, lugging the engine, it will chug-surge a little once or twice. It had a ses light come on today. I don't have a ODB 2 yet, but we had a garage scan it for us and he said we needed a new thermosat. Anyone have any ideas why it would surge? I wouldnt think that would be anything with the t-stat. Was thinking, fuel filter, injectors, IAC valve ,TPS.......not sure where to start.

I would start with changing the plugs and wires first. If your engine is running rough, you will definitely feel it when the torque converter is locked.

Thanks guys, I didn't see the thread below on the subject. I will deffinatlely try the batt. conn. and the ground strap on the body. Will try a tune if that doesn't work. Thanks again.

acw, can you put your year and model/trim level in your signature by editing your profile? It'll help us help you in the future. If you feel up to it, your location (in general) in your profile will also help a great deal.
