SLE/SSEi badges

Just a quick question:

Is it only double-sided tape holding the side badges to the doors or are they stamped on like older cars?

I've been toying with the idea of removing them for a cleaner look and was curious if anyone had done this already...

Thanks guys!

they are taped/glued on. try a hair dryer to remove.
a heat gun may get to hot be careful

Perfect thanks!

A little soap and hot water should take care of any leftover glue right? Nothing to worry about, I assume.

willwren 01-19-2006 10:55 PM

Try dental floss to remove the badge. The 'Goof Off' to remove the residue. ;)

Why are you debadging the SLE? It is a wonderful looking car from the sig pic I can see it is in great shape. *You have great taste in cars...* Good luck, heat it up, try so floss, the wax well after removing. I did the a similar to a dealer sticker on mine in July she came of so easy.

Eh, I like the clean look. 8)

Anyway thanks for the compliment; I try to keep it in as good of shape as possible, keep it in the garage/away from cars in parking lots etc. I have a few other subtle things in mind like exhaust tips, but no big changes to the exterior. Sure could use about a 1" drop.

Of course, we all have great taste in cars don't we?

NEVER use goof off on paint. Use goo gone. Goof off will dull and strip horribly. Goo Gone does the same w/o harning the paint.

I'd be affraid to use either. I'd just use a good wax with a cleaner already in it.

I've proven Goo Gone on tons of stuff that is weaker than the paint on our cars. And on my car..(darn dealer stickers)

corvettecrazy 01-20-2006 09:51 AM

3M makes a general purpose adhesive remover that is safe for paint (assuming you aren't soaking the paint in it for days). I LOVE the stuff.

If you are going for the sleek look you need to clear those front corners.

X2 on the 3M adhesive remover. Works great and safe.

Yeah, I've considered clearing them but I'm not sure how it will look on a gold car. I've seen it done on a few silver ones and it does look pretty sharp. I just know if I do the fronts I'll have to do the backs too. I'd much rather find some taillights from an '05 or GXP, but we all know how EASY that is. It's on the list...

Looks good!

I do like the way the clear corners look on our cars, but I've been a little hesitant to do it myself. I don't want to mess anything up.

Where'd you find the GXP taillights and how much did you pay? I've wanted some since the GXP came out, but have always figured they were out of my price range (and probably still are!).

trust me, if you work well with you hands you can do the headlights....it takes time!!
GXP lights... I got lucky with the tail lights and found a pair on ebay for 100bucks... and than i just sucked it up and ordered the center piece for a 100bucks from GMpartsdirect.
so i paid 200total.... you probably can the whole set from GMDirect for about 250-300...
need part #'s???

Oh, I'm sure it isn't too difficult. I've read up on it and I'm pretty confident I can do it; it's just a matter of just doing it. ;) Plus I'm not sure if I really want to go that route yet.

Maybe I'll keep an eye on eBay to see if another deal for the tail lights come up. I'm not ready to spend that much on them though... They do look really sharp!
