Default Window regulator fix

Just spent all day (and night) repairing both rears using the tech info willren has on the site. Only tricky part is knowing how to get the door panel off. Remember to pull UP to get the clips from the door handle puller off their mounts. Overall job including fabricating the brackets will take you about 4 hours per window (if you know sort of what you're doing.) Good luck!

Glad you got it done, though.
Yup! Especially since I had to re-do the pass side twice to get it right (cable kept pulling through the fabricated bracket).

good job actually having the balls to do this job. i did one, and it went out agian 4 months later. not having the patience for that crap again, i cut the cable, pushed it all the way up, and put a screw in the track. windows up, no leaks, dont care if it never goes down again. the parts alone are enough to make me not do that again, let a lone the labor. plus, im broke, and the 3 cent screw was more in my budget.

awesome job on the fix though, youve got more "give a damn" than me for sure!

Ya thanks! Next time I will take you up on your offer to help! I'll hold the beers while you do the 8 hours of labour!

8hrs-6"-2windows=PIA

6" of gap isn't much untill you get a US customs agent asking you to lower your back window so he can look into your car.........figured either fix it or get ready for the drug sniffers and the cavity searches!

Anybody have a theory what causes these to break, or how to keep them intact? Is there any way they can be beefed up before the retainer breaks loose? I'd like to avoid this job if possible, or at least do it in nice weather on my own terms

CHEAP PLASTIC! While fixing mine I noticed the plastic is very brittle and had cracks that indicated that the plastic actually shrunk. In my opinion if someone could fab a piece out of aluminum that would completely fill the gaps (like the little black piece that was stock)and grabbed the cable like Archons bracket that would be awesome. However that would be a CNC type job and would probably drive cost pretty high. I bet it would still be less than a new regulator though. Someone wanna try it

Woody it seems that plastic used in this application is too thin to hold the tension applied against it by the cable. Mine too was cracked in many areas around the housing that held the crimped end of the cable. The only permanent fix would be a metal replacement for the entire platic clip, in theory Archon'* fix (metal bracket (see tech tips)) is the next best thing and the only current solution to this problem. Might as well get your brackets now from Home Depot......you'll need one eventually like most of us 2000+ owners do! Home Depot stock number 30-3170 by Stanley.
