Shock Mounts

A couple of weeks ago, I started to hear noise coming from the pasenger side rear of the car. I found that top shock mount was bad, and the rod from the shock was pushing through. The concave washer on the top was a good 3/4 inch above the top of the mount. I replaced the mounts and shocks, and didn't think much more about it - until today.

A friend who also has a 2000 SSEi mentioned that the car was making noise. We went for a ride, and could hear a subtle rattling from the back end. I checked the same mount, and found that it is starting to do the same thing. This one is only about 1/4 through so far.

Anyone else experiencing this? If you hear some noise (rattle, bang, etc.) from the back of the car...may want to start by looking here.

our SSEi doesn't doa nything like that in the rear, but it does up front. the front driver's side strut rattles over bumps.. it's very annoying! The strut appears fine visually however..

I can get a picture of the one that is just starting to go bad. I already threw mine away. Even though mine only has about 66,000 miles on it, I just considered it as one of those things that happen and just tossed it all.. After I removed the top nut, the entire center part of the mount came out with the rod. Now that I've come across a second car with the same problem, I thought we may have another common problem here, and should let people know. It seems a bit too coincidental. The car that has the current problem has about 75k miles on it. I'll see if I can get a picture and post it tomorrow.

My driver’s side front shock mount has been replaced by the dealer (20,000 miles or so). The front strut was rattling over bumps, still kind of does it… Kind of lame for a 34,000 dollar car…

Here's a link to the picture that I took today. It's just starting to go, and is a little hard to tell that from the picture...especiallly as Yahoo cuts ths size down.

Tell her that you'll have to drive it for a while, just for a test...even though you hate having to give up driving the pickup. ;)
