Default 02 Bonneville Steering issues, please reply!!

Driving between 10-30mph, giving no gas, moving wheel 5 to 8 inches with one hand on the wheel only slooowly I feel a woobly sensation. Inter mediate shaft has been lubed, power steering pump has been replaced, any other advice, possible magnasteer issues or steering shaft bad??? I wan reading about TSB 99-02-32-007A but it says it only applies to 97-01, not 2002. :?

Hi and Welcome to the club. It'* always nice to have another Florida member.

Alan! Long time no see! Welcome back!

I had the steering thing fixed/replaced under the TSB. It was popping and groaning at low speeds. The problem went away after I had the work done, but it is starting to come back. I wonder if the work you had done is starting to wear off. I have heard of owners who get the intermediate steering shaft lube kit and the problem still comes back. Mine is covered under my extended warranty fortuneatly.

Again. Welcome!

Yep, something is wrong with the design or the quality of the parts used in the mfr. of the steering shaft. I have an 01' SE and an 03' SSEI. Both cars have the loose/clunking steering but the SSEI is worse, I assume because the tires have a bit less cushioning effect, etc. Both my cars have had the "lube kit" thing done which is about a joke. It lasted a whole week in the SSEI and a bit longer in the SE. I read somewhere (perhaps here) that GM was working on a better shaft design for those who complain. I don't hold out much hope for that though.

It'* not like the whole front end is falling off, rather it upsets me that I am paying big money for new cars that DONT HAVE TIGHT FRONT ENDS! What makes it worse is that I rented a bunch of the 99 and prior model year cars and every one was super tight. That was what won me over to the Pontiacs. I had a 99 Grand Prix as well, very tight. Shoud have kept it. Whatever changes they made in 2000 to the Bonne were not fully refined, at least in the area of steering feedback/NVH, etc. Everything else on both cars has been great. Good luck.

Try a couple of parking-type maneuvers(turning steering wheel when the car is Barely moving),......if you feel a shuttering vibration in the steering wheel and hear an unusually loud dull sound from the power steering you should refer to the TSB 99-02-32-007A to get it fixed,..........this happened to my wife'* '01 Bonneville SE,they replaced power steering hoses with upgraded ones to cure the low-speed steering 'shudder'.Even if your car is an '02,you might have the weaker hose/* installed from the factory......you should be feeling zero shuddering of the steering wheel during the very-slow speed maneuvers.

I have a similar problem in my 2000 my case it happens only on left turns I had replaced the left side axle a while back the right is original. I'll soon replace it and I think thats what'* causing the wheel undulations on low speed left turns.
