Default Front end rattle going over bumps

On our 2004 Bonneville, when driving over small bumps in the road, there'* a rattle coming from the front end. Just curious what this could be? We only have 32,000 miles on it, and are the original owners, so we know it'* not been in any accidents. I'm just thinking that some of these potholes around here have caused something to work loose.

I had a similar issue and after MUCH checking I found my hood would make that noise when I tapped it. So I loosened the bolts on the receiving bracket (on the car), moved it down slightly to take up the free play, and no more noise over bumps. Hope that helps - I spent hours and hours to find that resolution.

Thanks, I'll look at that. It kind of sounds like it'* coming from the wheels, like a hub cap, but we have the aluminum wheels, so it'* not that. We've had the car since new, and just got it paid off.... I suppose now we will start having issues.

OFF TOPIC: I see on the homepage they want people to tell a little of who they are, etc. Our Bonneville is my wife'* car (that'* why I put "bonnie_gal" for our name.) But, I'm on here more than she will be. Hope that doesn't confuse anyone.

Lots and lots of possibilities

If it sounds like it is coming from a wheel, could be a brake pad rattle, usually cause by a caliper hanging up leaving one pad loose

Also check you sway bar end links

does it sound metalic?

Yes, sounds metalic. Not real loud, just when going over certain bumps. The brakes have never had any work, and it has a little squeek when applying the brakes...so maybe it'* time for some new pads, that may take care of the rattle too, I'm thinking. Thanks.

While the brakes are being checked/replaced, check the tie-rods, balljoints, and sway bar links.

I had a similar noise coming from my LF wheel, and was wondering where it was coming from. Before I could get to inspecting much further I noticed the noise was gone. Coincidentally, my LF lug cover is also now missing.

i too have a front end rattle or as i would rather describe it as a chuckle in the steering wheel only felt over little minor cracks and deviations in the road. i checked over everything and all is tight. im believing now that it could possibly be the ISS or intermediate steering shaft. i have the grease however havent gotten the chance to take it apart.
