A few notes from replacing the front left and right control arms on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville yesterday:

Tools needed that may not be in your tool bag:

18mm wrench for the ball joint (you likely have a 18mm socket, but many wrench sets leave out the 18mm, they go from 17mm and jump to 19mm

Torque wrench for control arm mounts and ball joint castle nut (more on this in another post as I was unable to torque the ball joint castle nut)

Pickle fork/ ball joint separator (9.99 at Harbor freight or AutoZone)

Grease gun for new ball joints in the control arm

This is a fairly simple job. A few notes, when removing the control arms, only need a 18mm socket. The other bolt as a lock that prevents it from turning.

The sequence is remove stabilizer bar bushing, separate ball join by removing castle nut. be very castle when removing castle nut nit to damage the cv axle boot. they are less than an inch from each other. Then the control arm mounting bolts. Reverse the procedures to re-install.
