Remote Start/Memory Functions?

New Bonny Owners,

I have a Cobra fancy alarm with remote start that I had in my '00 Grand Am GT1 before I bought my '01 SSEi. I have yet to put the alarm in the Bonny because I'm not sure if I'll lose my memorey seat/mirror, etc. functions. Do any of you know if I take to the place (Best Buy) to have them install it, can they do it so it doesn't interfere with that stuff that I actually need the key fob for?

I have a prestige remote start/keyless entry system. I lose the driver memory with mine. It is because it's a different module that does the keyless entry and remote start. They told me that they could make it integrate with the factory one, but I would have to use the onboard system's antenna so I would lose my 1000' range for remote start.

Question....Remote Start/Memory

RWebb,

You said they could integrate it with the factory alarm/memory funtions but you'd lose your remote start altogether? Can you explain that in a little more detail? Also, what year Bonny do you have? If I have them install it like you have your's, I'd be using the alarm key fob and I'd have my remote start but couldn't I also still use my factory key fob to at least unlock the car to my memory positions? Also, if I press the number 1 or number 2 buttons on the inside of the car, wouldn't everything move where I want it? So in essence, I'd just be losing the ability to do it with my alarm key fob? Just let me know...I'm really curious and wanting to get this alarm back in my car. Thanks!

An aftermarket installer told me that he could integrate the car starter remote with the onboard keyless entry module, meaning that I could press the unlock button on my remote start keyfob and it would activate the factory keyless entry. The only problem with that is that the range is significantly diminished because the factory receiver doesn't have near the range of the aftermarket model.

The way mine works right now, I can use the factory keyfob or the aftermarket one. The factory system is not in any way modified when they put it in. It is just spliced into the actuator wires for the locks and trunk. Your memory buttons should not be affected by having it installed. They should work as they do now, along with your factory remotes. You just won't change driver memory by unlocking the car with the aftermarket remote.

THANKS!

Just wanted to say thanks for your help Rich!!! I'm gonna go to Best Buy (where I bought the alarm back in 2000) and have them install it in my Bonny. Appreciate the advice!

Jason
