Default Will a bad thermostat throw a code?

Wierd. SES light came on so I pulled it. Code number I can't recal, but it said thermostat failure. No overheating or anything bad. I bought a new one and some more dexcool to swap out thursday. Anyone have any related issues?

If your t stat is stuck open, then it will take an extended amount of time for the car to come up to temp. That will set a code.

One of these two could come up with one that is stuck open.
DTC P0125 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Insufficient for Closed Loop Fuel Control
DTC P0128 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

P0128 is the code. I noticed today after the wife was finsihed driving for the day, the gauge was way below normal after driving for quite sometime. Thanks for the help and problem solved.
