Default Pressure Control Solenoid? - Update [now slipping!]

Why me? lol

Today marks a week that I've had my new SSEi and I think i'm embarking on a major repair...I drove the car to work today [approx 20 miles] and towards the end of the commute I noticed I was getting some hard shifting...as if it were slamming into gears. I read around on here that a common problem is the PCS in the transmission...I'm looking to get the car scanned [at Advance or something], but does an SES light need to be on for that code to show?

Some set the SES, others are stored. Here'* the TSB on it.

Did the harsh shifts occur though all ranges from 1st to 4th gear? Does TCC engage? I would check the transmission fluid level & color in accordance with the owners manual. I would also recommend getting a scan for any DTC'* even though the mil is not illuminated.

I can't recall if it happened through all of the gears, but i think it did...i was too frustrated with what was going on to note that.

I just took it out while I was on break to Advance and learned nothing. I asked to get the car scanned, and the girl told me nothing would show if there wasn't a light...then I requested again for it to be scanned to see if a code was stored...then she asked me about my problem and the other worker there was confused how an automatic transmission would have a "hard shift." I decided to drop the topic and asked about getting a metal pulley. The girl typed in "pully" and after I saw the results I just left...

So the whole time I drove the car to AutoZone and back the shifting was fine. My commute home will be longer, so maybe it'll recreate the conditions for it to happen again - then i'll count lol

In the mean time, do what Markwb suggested and check out the condition of your tranny fluid. I wouldn't dig into it until you have confirmation that the pressure regulating solenoid truly is the problem.

Just got in from work...no problems shifting on the way in. After I got in the driveway I check the fluid...hard to see cuz it was dark out [and there'* no light under the hood of the 00'*???], so I held the dipstick in front of the headlight and noticed....bubbles?? Not a whole lot, but just a couple groups of smaller ones. I'm not sure if thats an indication of a problem, but the actual level of the fluid was fine.

bubbles usually mean you have to much fluid

Default PCS

Hey, I know what you mean. I was so upset when I saw that CODE P1811! Below is the link to a thread which might give you some more direction. But now that its fixed I'm glad I did it. And I'm glad I didn't wait. See if you can get it scanned at a local tranny shop. The guy at mine didn't charge me for the scan, but he also said he didn't want to do the work (its a big pain).

Thanks, I'm going to try and get it to a transmission shop tomorrow to see if there'* a code even tho there'* no SES light and it still hasn't happened since that one time. Etiher way, I wanna get the fluid changed just for good measure [who knows the last time it was done].

Also, i noticed today a faint sound [only audible from inside the car, on the far left of the drivers side near the instrument panel] that sounds like rice in a tin can. There'* no rhythm to it, but it does increase if you give it gas. However, it goes away [or fades out] if the car is idling. I'm wondering if its linked to my current problem...

I'll keep you guys posted on the results from the tranny shop. There'* a couple of local places...and then there'* an Aamco...are they bad like Jiffy Lube? lol

Ya know, I have that "Rice In A Can" sound too sometimes. It seems to happen most when its cold out (<40-50F). It does get SO ANNOYING! But I think its just something loose in the dash or steering colume. I just turn up the volume. AAMCO'* change depending on the shop you go to. I would try a small private shop first myself, they're usually more interested in giving you information so you can make a decision instead of being pressured into doing something that may not need to be done. And I agree, Jiffy Lube is a bad idea.

P.*.: I never had a SES light when my tranny was throwing P1811.
