I have an urgent request for help. I just went out for lunch to run errands. When I went to take off from a stop, the engine revved up and the car seemed to hesitate somewhat when it started to move (like when the clutch is not fully released on a manual transmission car). I slowly accelerated and when it came time for the transmission to shift (1-2), the shift was quite a bit slower, and the engine revved about 500 rpm higher before it actually shifted. I just checked the transmission fluid and the fluid is down a little bit (but still in the cross-hatched area on the dip stick). The fluid is now brown and smells a little burnt. I have not changed the transmission fluid since buying the car last August '09. I also have not had the transmission scanned to see if any codes exist. By the way, where is the computer link hook up on this car? The car only has just under 47k on it and I am not in a position financially to replace the tranny or have it rebuilt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I can take the car to Autozone when I get off work to have the vehicle scanned. Does it need to be replaced or rebuilt? Thanks again!

Matt.. the connector is by your left shin just under the edge of the dash.

I'd start with the a trans service and replace one quart of fluid with a thing of Lucas no slip trans goop.

other than that..I have nothing quick until you find chunks in the pan.

Dark burnt fluid seems to be common on the 2000+, I've seen it many times. Pick up a filter from autozone, I think there about $15, then get 2 gallons of trans fluid. Then follow this write up. https://www.gmforum.com/normal-maintainence-138/changing-transmission-fluid-filter-278813/ The filter may be gloged up. This will also allow you to inspect the trans pan. Post up any pictures. when at autozone, have them scan the car. Some trans codes do not trip a light.

Might want to change the fluid to Dextron VI. It brought my near transmissions back to health from near death.

I went to Autozone after work yesterday and they scanned the computer for tranny codes and it came back clean (no codes). I purchased a transmission filter, 6 qts of Dexron VI fluid, and a qt. of Lucas Transmission No Slip. I am going to change the fluid today and see if that helps. I will let you know what I find in the pan when I change the fluid. In driving the car home from Autozone, the car would shudder everytime I took off from a standstill. Thanks again for the help.

I performed the transmission fluid and filter change. I used Dexron VI and one qt. of Lucas but to no avail. The transmission is still slipping just like before. When I dropped the pan, I found lots of fine brown particles in the base of the pan, lots of a metallic gray sludge caked to the magnet, and about ten metallic chips in the pan. The filter was a bear to remove and re-install. The filter also was covered in a dark gray metallic oxide looking sludge, I guess that from what I saw, I need to have the tranny rebuilt, right? Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it! Come to think of it, when I would check the tranny fluid before, when I would wipe the dipstick, the rag would have a metallic gray oxide rub off the dipstick. Thanks again! I think I'm going to crawl under a rock right now!

Your trans needs a rebuild.

My worst fears are confirmed. Any advice for getting a rebuild other than warranty? Thanks.

Find out how far you are from Billboost. But ya, sounds like you have clutch, plate, and band on the bottom of your pan
