hello...I'm new here and hope this is the right place to ask this question...

my daughter'* 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SE is having problems with coil pack 1 and 4...it is not firing...all others are...I've replaced it and it the new one still will not fire...does anyone have any thoughts or ideas as what to do to fix this.

It wouldn't be the first time someone bought a new part, the problem doesn't go away, and the new part turns out to be defective. Switch the coil pack from the position that is not firing with one of the other coil packs and see if the misfire follows the coil pack.

This is probably not the problem, but it doesn't hurt to rule it out.

By the way, I certainly don't mean to imply Dan'* answer isn't correct. His answer is more likely than mine to fix the problem. I just don't want you to approach this with an absolute assumption that just because you installed a new coil pack it can't be the problem.

By all means, do what Dan suggested.

Cleaning the ICM contacts and putting some dielectric grease on them will certainly help and will in 90% of the time correct your problem. Just for grins and giggles..check that new coil and old to see they are okay https://www.gmforum.com/t278818/.

I've seen more then one part fail out of the box. Test, test, test. never assume a part works even when it'* new. Cleaning never hurts, but testing will confirm.

Nothing worse than getting a new part home and finding it no better than the part it was intended to replace. Make me no likey....make me grumpy!
