Problem with banging when accelerating
I just bought a 2000 Bonni SSI I think and there is a problem when you accelerate on drive only it gives you a slight banging or bumping sound after you take off from a stop, I was afraid it would be the tranny but it only does it in Drive. No problems shifting into any other gear. I did notice that when in parking and you step on the gas pedal the motor kinda jumps up could it be one of the motor mounts that are giving it the banging when gas is applied. I'm at the end of the rope here it's a nice car but i'm worried that it might be something more costly like tranny or motor. The motor runs fine no weir noices or anything of the sort its just the banging sound when gas is applied after a stop. Could someone shed some light into this subject....thanx.

I made a solid front motor mount because my original mount was going bad. I installed it, drove the car, removed the hockey-puck mount and reinstalled the bad mount until I can get a real one from GM. The solid mount transmitted way too much vibration into the car. Not my cup of tea. Especially considering what little benefit I got for putting up with the annoying vibration. I'll take a good factory mount anyday. If I wanted that kind of vibration, I'd get a Yugo... I agree though, check your front mount (or all of them). |
Let's agree to say.
Check your front mount. On the 00+ cars they are a sad excuse for a mount. Many have done a solid mount out of either tire sides or hockey pucks with great success and satisfaction. I personally have a hockey puck mount and like it. |

I agree though, check your front mount (or all of them). your mount was obviously not that bad then, period. let it be known that this is the first complaint about the solid front motor mount on the 00+ |
We just recently picked up an '03 SSEi, and it had a bad front mount. Three hockey pucks, some washers, a long grade 8 bolt, a locknut, a drill, and about 30 minutes later all done. :D
Our car did exactly as you describe, and that fixed it. Yes, we did get some extra vibration in the car around 1,400 rpm, but it is nothing to bad for us. We are very happy with the mount. |
So the banging when gas is applied might be the motor mount? Hopefully it just stays like that. For how much can window motor behind driver go for?

If you have to drive the car for a little while untill it is fixed, I would say try to avoid having to punch it to pull out into traffic, and try to not park on hills. |
While this post is technically the motor mount. I did see your question. Don't buy a regulator. Fix yours instead. ;) Lower cost, more longevity and overall...a better way to go.

do you think it might hold a 97 mile treck to my house or it might just quit in the way so i don't risk it as it's too far from where i can fix it.
