Oil smell getting into cabin

Ok I take a run on the hwy upto about 75-80 mph then take a cut off to get to work. By the time I'm off the highway and onto the 30 mph zones again I get a distinct buring oil smell in my car coming in from the vents.

My concern is: could this be the UIM problem or bad seals on my valve covers or both?

Anyone have this problem before and licked it?

No. The L67 does NOT have the UIM failure, as the L67 doesnt't have a UIM. I'd suspect a leaky valve cover.

what the ****?

My LIM gasket has failed twice in less than 100,000 miles. The LIMs do not fail though. they are not made of plastic.

Yes you probably have a leaky valve cover.

Corrected. Sorry.

Brian, how many miles (ok km) on it now? Just did the lowers on a 2000 SSEi (not mine) with around 85,000 miles. The lower gasket still looked pretty good...was just starting to show some warping. To answer your question, it is likely to be the rear valve cover leaking oil onto the rear maniflold. You may want to consider the "whole job" though if you're getting up there on kilometers.

There's 62000 miles on my car now. I'm thinkin valve covers too but maybe should do the whole thing together as you suggested Dick.

That's what I'd do...and will shortly. Get the newer GM metal lower intake gaskets and that way things will be out of the way for the foreseeable future.
