Oil Pressure Gauge - Where is the needle supposed to be?

Hi,

Where is the oil pressure gauge supposed to be/read on a 2002 SSEi?

When the car is coasting, the gauge reads approx. 40, but when the gas pedal is pushed the needle goes up and it reads approx. 60...

Is this normal?

I have not noticed this before - every time I looked at it, it was around 40. But after taking the car on a long trip and using the supercharger a lot, I have noticed the difference.

Please advise.

Thanks as always!

should be about normal i think... thats how mine is :w3

That's about normal

Normal range. Remember that an electric gauge is not all that accurate compared to a mechanical gauge.

Are you guys sure that's normal?

Because I could swear that the needle stayed around 40 all of the time before I took this long trip and used the supercharger a lot...

Along with the new very light tinging sound, this has me REALLY nervous!

What does the oil look like? The pressures your stating are all in norm. If it was way low you would hear a ticking sound.

Oil pressure is directly related to engine rpm until the pressure relief valve pressure is reached.

The oil was just changed a month, and about 700 miles ago by the dealer...

I will check the level...

Every vehicle I have owned that had an oil pressure gauge is always reading lower at engine idle then will rise when the engine is up to speed. A 20 psi rise seems very normal to me. Sorry I don't know what your engine's oil pressure should read but as far as the 40 to 60 psi range that seems very normal.

Just changed the Oil Pressure Sender on the Bonneville. It was up to 120 all the time. Now it reads 40 @ idle and moves up almost to the next big line when driving.
