oil pressure..

ok i just changed my oil on sat. i put in 4.5 qts like the book said, also a new filter. but my pressure is high, i know its not a big deal but i was just wondering why its always high.

Always high? Even after you get the car up to operating temperature??? According to my manual, Normal Oil Pressure is about 60 psi. @ 1850rpm with 10W-30 dino oil. What type/weight oil are you using? There could be a problem with the Oil Pressure Sending Unit.

20/50w nuthin else

opensourceguy 10-31-2004 09:03 PM

that's why it's high!

That's like diesel oil! You have to be sitting at like 120PSI with that crap at 32*F

uhh try 10w30 instead! actually in the manual it says straight 30weight is better than running anything like 10w40 or 20w50. My grandpa doesn't even run that in his motor home 454! lol

You'll need that 180 degree thermo just to keep up with the excess heat your car is generating to move that heavier oil. Also your gas mileage(while it might not just suck) is not what it could be if you were running a 10W-30 oil. Why do you believe you need 20W-50 oil? I don't believe you are getting any added protection, especially during start ups!

20W50 is definately not the oil you want to be running in that engine. 5W30 or 10W30 is what you should be using. High oil pressure and thick oil are both hard on an engine...all you're doing is hurting it not helping. We put 10W30 in everything except the GTP which gets 5W30.
