2000 Dashboard
Hi im new to this site and had a question. It might be a crazy question but here goes. I have a 2000 SSEi bonneville and it needed an complete dashboard because the one thats in there some kids stole it and re-faced the whole thing. My question was i know where to go and get one from but i was wondering does the VIN number come apart with the dash or when its tooken out does it just stay there? I asked the rep but she didnt know so my husband suggested this site for me.Any response would help and pics would too.
Thanx fellow Bonneviller'*!!

So if were both correct if the dash is took out the vin will come out 2. My gosh, if i try to take the vin out it mite get scratched up and the cops mite think its stolen. How will i get the rivets out? Are they like screws that you will need a special tool for?

I thought the VIN plate was riveted to the lower windshield frame rail? And the dash just installs around it? Am I wrong? I don't have a 2k handy to look at.
And we're talking about the whole dash? That'* a huge undertaking, including an airbag. Get a service manual before you do it, or hook up with another member for help if you're not comfortable with it.
If the top is damaged, I'd consider getting a carpet dash mat for it instead.

Well what happen was that I had a NICE stereo system with a 2-12'' kickers and they stole it and that would have just been ok. But the lil runts had to give my Bonnie a new face by put nail acrylic on the dash and taking a knife and shaving the dash in sticking hole in it and the seats.
So the vin is connected to the car. What a relief. Arent the vin #'* impossible to remove anyway?

the Vin in the window can be removed with a drill. but there are others on the car.. under the hood... theres like 9 or more vins besides the window one.. you can even have them eitched(spelling?) into your door windows
heres a list of places...not to smart to have on the internet.. crooks can now find them.
transmission
front & rear bumper
engine
hood
right & left door
sliding cargo door
right & left quarter panels and side assembly
pickup/cargo box
rear doors & hatchback/deck lid/tailgate.

Back in the old days, it was OK and recommended to shoot the person who stole your horse. Shouldn't that apply to car & related thieves? I had a friend in college who had the center section of his dash removed by chain saw...that was nice mess!!!
