O2 Sensor Problems
 

Hi my name is Bill, I'm pretty new to the forums here, so cut me some slack ;) . My catylitic converter is all rusted out, and I want to replace it. My dad bought a cheap after-market cat and we took it up to the local shop to see what they could do with it. They said if they put it on, my check engine light would be on all the time, and my car wouldnt run right. I said "ok" and took it back home. The person/company my dad bought this catylitic converter from said that they could make a little tube to put the o2 sensor in, and it would work. If anybody has had similar issues or would like to throw their two cents in, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks everybody.

Also there are cats made that have that O2 Bung built in..

But the exahust shop should be able to install it..

There is a second oxygen sensor behind the cat to check its condition. Your cat probably didn't have a spot for it. There are O2 spoofs that you could buy, but the recommendation would be to have it done right with the second sensor. As Jr's 3800 said, there is no reason that a good muffler shop wouldn't be able to help you out with that, or have the place where you bought it do it, and then have it installed.

You could add a spoof as well as mentioned.

And honestly..having been under a bunch of these cars.. especially 96-99 when the second O2 began, the O2 bung in the pipe is about 4 inches back behind the catalytic converter. There is no reason that it should have been removed.

This is a link that shows the procedure for replacing the rear sensor. More importantly, it shows its location, as well as the cover to protect the wiring. You don't have a lot of room for error on the location of the sensor if a pipe is added if you want to keep it as stock. How much extra will the shop charge to added the spot of the O2 sensor, and then installation? Will that cost still be less than if you just had a direct replacement put in?
