Default new tire size fitted to ssei

we just took the bonnie SSEi in to get a temp set of used tires put on the front of it. the only car tires they had in a 17" rim was a pair of 285/40 R17 goodyear eagle F1 off the rear of a corvette. thought i was sure they would not fit but he said he thought they would. so he mounted them up and bolted them on and they look mean on there. they are on the stock 2000 SSEi wheels i have about 1/4" between the tire and the strut but just in case we plan on putting on a 1/8th inch wheel spacer on the front. they also rub the lower inner splash guard when the wheel is turned to full lock but not bad enough to hurt anything they only rub when pulling into a parking spot. i think the next set will be 275'* or 265'* on the front to give a little more room and less negative stretch.

That is a big tire. Watch hitting bumps, it could contact the edge of the wheel well.

Anytime a tire rubs on the car, your asking for trouble - for either the car the tire or both. For safety sake, you may want to reconsider using the 285/40 and a spacer. Though 1/8 spacer does not seem like allot, it can throw the geometry off on your front end and cause more problems in the future.

yes they 285'* are a bit big but they were better then the bald 225'* that were on the front of the car so we got them put on. it will still smoke the 285'* all the way through 1st gear with just a 3.3 pulley, headers, 3" flowmaster exhaust, and a tune.

like i said about the rubbing they only rub when at full lock on a piece of plastic that not going to hurt anything. next time we will go a little smaller to about a 265 or so.

hey can you post pics of the wheels. I use a set of drag raidals, and want to go wider, like to a 275 tire

they are the same wheels that are on the silver car in purplehazer'* sig. they are just stock 2000 SSEi wheels. if your running DR'* you shouldn't need that wide of a tire a 245or 255 should be more then enough unless your running over 400-500 hp. what tires are you using? if your running nitto 555R'* then maybe it time to step up to mickeys either their D/R'* or the ET STREET'*.
