New Fuel pump
 

Hey Everyone, Looks like the Sons 2000 SSEi needs a new pump. He called saying it kept dying on him. I got home and put a FP gauge on her and it was steady, then it just started losing pressure till it stumbled and died. It will start right back up, run a while then do it again. I took off the pump cover in trunk and listened to the pump and had a test light in line to make sure the pump wasnt loosing power. Started her up and she ran a bit, pump sounded ok, then pump growled some, cleared up, ran normal then just died. power never was disrupted. Cycled key and started right up again. Car has nearly 200,000 on her so I cant complain. Can I get just a pump or do you need to get the whole assembly. How about a part number.

I recommend the entire assembly, OEM only, DELPHI FG0161, 249 at rockauto. Aftermarket internal fuel pumps have a bad reputation for a reason. Go with the DELPHI and will likely be good for the life of your Bonny.

I agree after market do have a bad reputation.

I agree, stay AWAY from Airtex also.

You will want the complete assembly since one of the biggest problem these cars have is failing fuel level sensor. The fuel level mechanism is part of the pump assembly. Don't forget to buy a new O ring for the tank opening. Rock auto has those as well.

i've had bad luck with aftermarket ones on my Blazer. well, let me say they worked good while the car ran, but upon startup they didnt get enough pressure to fire the car up every time. I had to crank the engine, turn the key off and then try to start it again. in the end, I would suggest to just bite the bullet and get a good one because you do not want to have to do the same job over and over. take your time, do it right, use the good parts and you will not regret it..
