Pulley
Hi I'm new to the bonneville mods. I was looking at getting a smaller blower pulley and was wondering , which one looks similar to stock (since the car is under warranty till 2006) and do I need to upgrade the fuel system with and adj. fuel pressure regulator or something to that respect? Don't want to lean it out tooo much. Thanks

The 3.4" is close to stock. Stock is 3.6". The only real way you could tell is to actually measure it. That .2" though makes a big difference though in performance. That and the DHP computer have been the best bang for the buck of the mods I have done. I would put a performance muffler and at least a K&N air filter in with the pulley to get a little extra performance out of the pulley.

Stock is actually 3.80", and I agree that 3.40" is the best place to start on your car. You don't have to worry about leaning out because your Mass Airflow Sensor will detect the extra air and the PCM will in turn widen your fuel injector pulsewidths.
Hope this helps.

How much can I increase the HP before the intake charge gets too hot , and how much abuse can the tranny take? I was looking into a thrasher shift kit, but not sure of any long term negative effects. I don't want to blow it up, cause it is my only ride for the moment.

Bob, generally going down one step on your pulley won't make any appreciable intake charge temp difference. I would, however, strongly suggest you work on your intake, exhaust, and drop in a 180° thermostat before trying this. You won't get the full benefit of that smaller pulley til you do the other things. As far as the trans is concerned, you definitely want another or a larger tranny cooler for insurance. I know a couple guys are running the Thrasher kit and are happy with it. I went through my PCM and got similar results using a Jet Stage 2 chip. Firmer shifts and different shift points. The 4T65E-HD tranny is pretty tough. It'* designed for more than your car can REASONABLY dish out. With a few mods like intake, exhaust, pulley, and a shift kit, as long as you take the cooling precautions, your trans should be fine. When you hit the 300hp range, you'll wanna be looking at Intense for better insurance and performance.

I was looking into ported exhaust manifolds. They are $500, I think that is a little steep, For another couple a bucks some one should offer a set of headers. But I havent found any yet. I want to get some kind of exhaust headers, pulley, cold air intake, and a shift kit. Already installed the 180* thermostat. Being an auto tech I have replaced about 2 dozen of the plastic manifolds due to heat cracking at the throttle body. And my 97ssei always ran in the 220*-230* range in the summer till the 180 was installed. I like that car better than the new one, but I guess the Escalade that T-boned me liked it better. I was hoping to make close to 300hp. I hope i'm on the right track. Thanks Bob

Ported exhaust manifolds AND headers are in the works. Email hector@angryducktofuracing.com for details, or PM 99BonnevilleSE here on the forum. He'* working on lots of stuff, and has Series 2 intakes, also.
