Default Was my car Neglected by it'* previous owner?

I'm the proud new owner of an 02 SSEi. I had been looking for an 00 - 05 SSEi for a couple months. When I found this one I snatched her up.

I have been a GM Man all my life. Always defending GM form the HATERS.

I purchased this car from a respectable dealer (78k mi.) and he'* doing the right thing. (he'* making repairs at no charge to me and has given me an 06 chevy as a loaner)

My question is..... did the previous owner run this car into the ground or has the quality of gm parts gotten this bad?

here'* what has been been repaired so far.

Before I ever saw the car the frnt. window reg. replaced, right front tie rod replaced, front strut bushing replaced. New brakes, inc. front rotors.

When I test drove the car the check engine light was on. The dealer told me it was throwing a cat def. code and the Cat needs to be replaced. (he'* taking care it of under GM Warranty).

The 1st time I started the car after purchasing. I noticed a light on dash, "Check Gas Cap" (bought new one, it didn't fix the problem)

Day 2 the car started overheating in traffic. (coolant leaking from plastic elbow connecting the upper and lower intake) I never saw a lot of steam and there was only a small amount of coolant on ground but i had to add 3 gallons of coolant over the next few days. (Now i'm Worried)

Day 4, I start the car after being parked on a slight downward incline for a couple days and smoke is billowing out from under the hood (valve cover gasket leaking on exhaust manifold).

oh yeah the oil preassure gauge stays Pegged.

one more thing.... the friggen jack and lug wrench are missing

Anyone have an Opinion?....lol

Let me repeat, I don't think the dealer knowingly sold me a POS. he sells a lot of late model high end cars, (Beemers, Porsches, Hummers etc.) and he'* taking care of the problems.

Shhhhhhh.... Don't tell anyone I used the Loaner car to drive into NYC for dinner yesterday (179 mi. each way)

no i think GM has gotten worse...there is no comparson in the build and qualtiy of my 93 vs. my 03...the 93 wins hands down, but the 03 has all the creature comforts, and a better feel

sounds like allot of the common issues with the 00+ bonnie'*. If the dealer is taking care of it, then there should not be allot left to go wrong with it. Few annoyances which you can read about in the 00+ section, but other then that, pretty solid cars once the few known issues are fixed.

Most of the problems stated above are common issues with the 00+ model Bonneville'*. Window regulators are known to go, the oil pressure being pegged is common, thats the sensor, the LIM gaskets are a common issue and should be replaced with the updated gaskets and with any kind of coolant other then DEXCOOL. The gas cap I had the same issue, it would come and go.

Tie-rod, regular maintenance
Brakes, regular maintenance

Watch out for water leaks from the doors and the sunroof drains, and also in the trunk. Those are also common issues. Mine was a fishbowl for a while.

While I don't agree about dumping the Dex (go with anything as long as it'* maintained), I think you ran into a bunch of things that may have been let go a little.

How is that possible under a GM Warranty?

Manfacturers according to emissions laws must warranty all emission parts or at least cat'* to 80,000 miles. Might be longer these days, but I found it out on my truck a few years back.

Sheeeeee'* Back!

OK got my Bonni back a couple days ago. everything is working, nothing is leaking the only thing that she'* leaving on the road now is loooooong burnouts..... As far as the Cat goes. i guess I had been misinformed. the check engine light was not a Cat code. it was the fuel tank pressure. (gas cap message). They replaced the LIM and every other gasket along the way and the Valve cover bolts were loose causing the oil leak. They told me if I have any more problems just let them know and they'd take care of it.

NOW...... I'm still looking for a Front License plate filler... Local Pontiac Dealer wants $65.05 for the part... then i still need to have it painted
