When you change the valve, make sure you have one o-ring on the bottom nipple of the pcv valve. Sometimes the o-ring sticks in the plastic bore and is very hard to see. If you install two o-rings or no o-rings you may have troubles.
Your pcv valve and its o-ring seals should look like this (your newer car will have a more complicated cap that fits the MAP sensor, but the seals are the same as shown for a '95 below:
